A follow up to 2008′s The Strangers is coming which should be of no surprise since the original made $82 million on a $9 million budget. Shooting is set to begin in April. Liv Tyler is set to return.

Con Air 2?

Con Air was released in 1997 and made over $200 million. It was a well-made cookie-cutter action movie that was surprisingly never sequelized. That seems to be about to change. Director Simon West says he wants to get with Nicolas Cage and make Con Air 2, “It’s a matter of getting everybody together. There’s so many people involved and it’s about getting everybody to agree. But I’m going to bring it up to Nic. I’m going to put a bug in his ear about it. If the two of us want to do it, we’ll go after the others.”
I think it is safe to say Nicolas Cage won’t turn down a sequel opportunity and studios are all about rehashing old, proven ideas. Expect this to happen.

Not much solid here but it seems Bill & Ted 3 and a possible two picture deal for some Matrix follow-ups.
Keanu, if you are reading this, skip the Matrix sequels and move Bill & Ted to the forefront. I am all for Excellent Adventures but The Matrix movies are only Excellent as a sedative.

Alien Prequel Neither Alien Nor Prequel!

We had word that Ridley Scott was coming back to make an Alien prequel. Ridley scott’s and Damon Lindelof’s movie is now called Promethius. It is the same flavor as Alien but a different universe.
Here are just a few questions…
- What about news that it was an Alien prequel set in 2085, 30 years before Alien?
- What about finding out who the Space Jockey was?
- What about Weland Corporation, the early iteration of Weyland-Yutani Corp.?
- What about Xenomorphs?
- What about H.R. Giger?
- What the hell happened?
Promethius is set for release March 9, 2012.

‘Red’ Sequel Coming!

It should be no surprise that a sequel to last year’s Red is in the works. The sequel is being penned by Red writers Jon and Erich Hoeber and I have a feeling this will be one of those rare sequels where it outperforms the original. Red or RED, which stands for “retired, extremely dangerous” will probably have a bigger DVD life than it ever will on the big screen. But that doesn’t mean the sequel(s) won’t get bigger box office receipts with each outing. Think Austin Powers franchise.
